Unity3D vs the Unreal Development Kit

I've been playing around with the Unreal Development Kit recently, mainly to see if its the technology I want to pursue for a platformer game. I've determined, however, that it will be a last resort for this project. The UDK is a great tool and it seems very easy to use, but the engine is really built around a shooter perspective. This may be great for a future project, but my current project I'm trying to get rolling on will be easier done with a different technology.

I've decided to look into Unity3D. Free licensing and native C#/Python Boo/JavaScript support should make this more along the lines of what I'm comfortable with (UnrealScript, while easy enough to get into I'm sure, I've never worked with). The fast and flexible engine should be better suited to a non-traditional first/third person shooter game. I have yet to really delve into it (I haven't actually booted it up yet) but I'll be giving it a shot later today or tomorrow.
